Overview

Long-haul trucking is the backbone of the economy for many countries. It serves as a means to deliver or distribute mass essential goods or materials to where they are needed the most. Unkown to most, millions of tons of goods and materials are trucked annually to sustain our daily lives. While deliveries mostly go unnoticed, the dangers and hazards are often reported on daily news. One of the most faced problems with long-haul trucking is the hours a driver must endure. Imagine a cross country drive in the USA, it is approximately 2800 miles, coast to coast, and it needs to be driven in a matter of days. Upon arriving at the destination, the driver and the truck faces the daunting task of traveling the exact same distance back to their starting point.

Problem-solving

Delivering goods and materials from A to B over thousands of miles while driving 100+ hours is a sure combination for driver fatigue. In additional to driver safety, the long-haul may involve trans- porting anything from dangerous chemicals, live stocks, petroleum, pressurized gas, etc. that may also be problematic should an accident occur.

Problem-solved

Our customer found their central autonomous vehicle controller in Neousys Technology’s Nuvo-8108GC series supporting up to RTX 3080 graphics cards and at the same time, it can also connect to a variety of sensors, collect and process the data, while withstanding constant shock/ vibration environment of a semi-trailer.

Benefits brought by autonomy solves (1) Driver fatigue: Bringing safety to the semi-trailer driver, other car users on the road and goods/ materials themselves; (2) Optimization for performance: With the driver in stand-by mode, drivers are much less likely to be fatigued, the autonomous semi-trailer can drive further distances and longer hours at a time without stopping, offering fuel-efficiency and less wear and tear; and the GPU-aided inference technology is geared for (3) Advance machine-learning capability: Traveling for thousands of miles, you’re bound to run into situations where the autonomous computer won’t recognize. In this case, the human driver will takeover the wheel and maneuver around the situation on the road and at the same time, the GPU-aided inference central computer will “take note and learn” to help it better recognize similar incidents and perform maneuvers to get around it, next time.

Nuvo-8108GC series GPU-aided platform offered all the right ingredients. Our customer was looking for. The platform offered processing power, USB3.1 Gen1, PoE, COM port (for LiDARs, RADARS & CAMERAS), wireless communication (5G/ 4G for real-time information), CAN bus, other function expandability, and last but not least, patent damping bracket to withstand constant shock and vibra-tion for the system to withstand operating conditions of a semi-trailer.
